Writer-director John Singleton’s BOYZ N THE HOOD takes us into south central Los Angeles, Crenshaw specifically, to observe what life is like for a group of friends as they grow into young adulthood with violence or the threat of violence a part of their community. Cuba Gooding Jr., Ice Cube, Morris Chestnut, and Laurence Fishburne are among the cast of Singleton’s 1991 debut film.
